If you have had unprotected sex and are concerned that you may have contracted the sexually transmitted infection (STI) chlamydia, our easy-to-use test kit can provide you with accurate results in just a few days.

This chlamydia test kit can be used by both men and women and only requires a urine sample to give the user accurate results. The test can be carried out from the privacy of your own home, and the kit will arrive in discreet packaging to provide complete discretion.

If your results return positive, medical guidance will be given to you on the treatment options available.

What is chlamydia?

Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It can affect both men and women and often comes with no symptoms at all. For this reason, it is commonly passed on from partner to partner, as the carrier is unaware that they have it.

However, if you do get symptoms, they can include:

  • Abnormal vaginal, penile or anal discharge
  • Pain during urination
  • Stomach pain, bleeding after sex or bleeding between periods (in women)
  • Testicular pain and swelling (in men)

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that can usually be treated with antibiotics. However, if left untreated it can spread to other parts of the body and cause serious health problems.

This is why it is so important that you are tested after having unprotected sex. The quicker you can be diagnosed, the easier it will be to treat.

How can you catch chlamydia?

You can catch chlamydia through contact with infected semen or vaginal fluid. You do not need to have penetrative sex to catch chlamydia. It can be caught via:

  • Unprotected sex (vaginal, anal or oral)
  • Sharing sex toys without washing them or using a new condom
  • Getting infected semen or vaginal fluid in your eyes
  • Your genitals touching another person’s genitals

Pregnant women can also pass chlamydia on to their babies.

You cannot catch chlamydia through non-sexual contact, such as sharing towels, swimming pools or baths. Additionally, it cannot be caught through kissing or hugging.

How to use the chlamydia test kit

Follow the instructions that come with the kit exactly.

The kit contains a urine sample bottle and a stamped addressed envelope for return postage to the laboratory.

Once you have collected your sample, you should screw the sample bottle tightly, fill out the paperwork that comes with the kit and place all of these items into the return envelope. Post the envelope off as soon as possible to receive your results within a few days.

If your test results come back as positive, you will be given guidance on how to best treat your case of chlamydia.

How will I get my results?

Our test kit contains a pre-paid delivery label. When you have carried out the test simply place the contents back into the box and seal the box with the label provided. You can post the box back to our partner laboratory who will then assess your test kit.

You results will be emailed to you with 1 day, you will be notified of any negative or positive result.

When should I take a chlamydia test?

If you have had unprotected sex with a new partner, or believe there is a possibility that you have caught chlamydia, you should get tested. STI testing is recommended for anyone who has unprotected sex with people other than a regular sexual partner.

You should use the chlamydia test kit within 14 days after having unprotected sex, as the infection may not appear in the laboratory results if you take the test before this time.

Please note, this test kit will only test for chlamydia. It does not detect the presence of any other sexually transmitted infections in your body. If you think you may have contracted a different STI, such as gonorrhoea or syphilis, you should either order a more comprehensive test or speak to your doctor.

What happens if I test positive for Chlamydia?

If you test positive for chlamydia you can also buy treatment online to treat the infection within 7 days. Doxycyline and Azithromycin chlamydia treatment is available to buy online from medicine direct. Both treatments can successfully treat a chlamydia infection within 7 days.

It is also important that you do not have sex after testing positive as Chlamydia is a highly contagious infection. You must also not have sex during your treatment period.

After you have completed your treatment course, you are recommended to take another chlamydia test to ensure that the treatment has successfully got rid of the infection.
